Children and Youth Festival
RIFF Children’s & Youth Programme 2015
For the first time RIFF Children & Youth festival takes place from 26th September till 28th September in Nordic House. Have a look at our great programme for our youngest film-lovers! All films are shown in orginal version with Icelandic Live dubbing.
SATURDAY, September 26th Opening Day:
11:00 – 14:00 Programmes for kids 4+ and kids 10+ shown in orginal versions with Icelandic Live dubbing by actors Vanessa Andrea Terrazas, Hafsteinn Vilhelmsson and Þórunn Guðlaugsdóttir.
14:30 Opening Party. Face painting done by Sirkus Islands and opening of the poster exhibition „Little Puffin goes to the Movies“ in Nordic House
15:00 Opening Film The Golden Horse for kids aged 6+ moderated by Thelma Marín Jónsdóttir.
SUNDAY September 27th
11:00-14:00 Programmes for kids 4+ and 6+, shown in orginal versions with Icelandic Live dubbing by actors Vanessa Andrea Terrazas, Hafsteinn Vilhelmsson and Þórunn Guðlaugsdóttir.
15:00 Youth programme 14+ with Secret Icelandic Short and Special Guests, moderated by Thelma Marín Jónsdóttir.

16:30 Closing Gala with red carpet & paparazzi photographer. Announcement of winners of the poster competition. „Little Puffin goes to the Movies“
17:00 Closing Film. Estonian movie The Secret Society of Soup Town moderated by Thelma Marín Jónsdóttir.

Anne Kristin Berge – Norway – 2014 – 8 min
Herman lives in peaceful harmony with his teddy bear inside a large tree surrounded by a beautiful garden. One night an unexpected and for Herman unwelcome visitor arrives. When Herman throws the visitor out it gets stormy outside and he realizes that he has to go out on a rescue mission. We follow Hermans journey through thick fog before he eventually understands that a heart can accommodate many and the fog clears.

Nine-year-old Anna finds a bottle with a spell hidden inside it. With this spell Anna has the power to freeze people in her surroundings. She uses this spell to for example get rid of the dinner she doesn’t like by freezing her dad. She also tries to use it on the boys who bully her while building a sandcastle on the beach. Unfortunately it doesn’t work on all of them…

Elin tries to fit in at her new school where the classmates are preparing for a skiing trip. Soon she realizes that children are divided into rich and poor, and she doesn’t know where she belongs. A short film based on real experiences.
Rune Denstad Langlo – Norway – 2014 – 6 min
It can be tough to be a kid. Especially if you’re not part of the gang. Foul is a humorous and melancholy everyday odyssey. It is a road movie that follows a ten-year-old girl through all the resistance she experiences on a normal winter day in Norway. Based on the director’s memories from the 1980s.
Lauri Randla – Finland – 2014 – 8 min
7 year old Johannes is staying at his grandparents in an enclosed military town of Sillamäe. Desire to see his mother puts Johannes on an escape journey through the steep hills of Sillamäe military district. As a getaway car he has a toy Moskvitch and as a companion his only true friend Crocodile Gena, as they drive towards the city of Tartu 180 kilometers away

Eight year old Elisa lives alone with her mother Jeanne, in a small isolated village of the French Alps. The little girl suffers from her mother’s absence as Jeanne works every night in a bar in town. Elisa tries to fill her loneliness by constantly wearing a frightening wolf hand puppet. She is fascinated with this powerful, brave and fearless animal. One morning she hears on the radio that real wolves have been spotted in her remote mountainous area.

The warm and caring vagabond Dio and his dog Loppe are the only ones taking time to enjoy life and each other’s company in a fast paced, always moving city. When Loppe is taken from him, Dio goes on a desperate chase to retrieve his beloved companion through the huge, busy city. Going against his nature, Dio is faced with the actual state of the city and discovers how bad society has gone to keep up its pace.

But an outside incident changes their plans and confronts the precariousness of this shared moment. The Cut tells the story of a father and a daughter, whose relationship fluctuates between proximity and detachment, at the moment of a haircut.

Marie Grathø Sørensen – Denmark – 2014 – 30 min
Sally, 17, is locked up at Teenland. A prison-like institution for teens who are so fucked emotionally that they have developed supernatural powers . The institution is trying to cure the girls from their abilities. The mission is to normalize the misfit teens so they can be reinstated as productive members of society. Sally is afraid of the institution. She does what they say and doesn’t use her powers. Until one day, when everything changes…
Ivan Salatić – Montenegro – 2014 – 24 min
Luka moves to a small coastal town to live with his aunt while his parents are in the middle of a divorce. A sense of numbness might be hanging over the town, but there is also Jana, a girl form the neighbourhood who loves to sunbath. The end of a lazy summer is near and kids spend their days jumping into the sea and swimming at an abandoned submarine port.
