About the movie

Poland, 1990. The crumbling Soviet bloc brings the euphoric start of freedom, but also uncertainty. Four unhappy women want to change their lives and fight for their happiness. Agata, a young mother, is unhappily married and seeks refuge in one-sided love for a priest. Renata, an older teacher, is fascinated with her neighbour Marzena – a lonely former local beauty queen, whose husband works in Germany. Marzena's sister Iza is a headmistress, who fell in love with the father of a student. Everyone looks for love in the chilly, gloomy landscape of a nondescript town of soulless apartment blocks. At the same time people are allowed to spy on one another... Won Best Script at Berlinale.
